The High Court’s 1992 ‘mabo’ decision which related to the Murray Islands off the Queensland coast recognised Native Title. The effect of this Court case and subsequent Federal and State legislation has necessitated the investigation of all unalienated Crown Land for the possible existence of Native Title. This is done through the National Native Title Tribunal. Palmer Bruyn and Parker undertook the first determination of this type in Newcastle and are skilled in the process of determining the existence or otherwise of Native Title and dealing with these conclusions.
